Ethiopia Public Health Training Initiative – In the News

It all started in Addis Ababa, roughly 20 years ago, during a meeting between U.S. President Jimmy Carter and Ethiopian President Meles Zenawi. The two leaders and friends had just toured an agricultural demonstration project in rural Ethiopia, in which the Carter Center of Emory University was assisting.

French Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Partner With Â鶹´«Ã½É«ÇéƬ
On September 28, 2009, Pascal Le Deunff, Consul General of France in Atlanta, announced to Dr. John Hardman, President and CEO of the Carter Center, that the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has decided to partner with the Carter Center in order to transpose their Ethiopia Public Health Training Initiative (EPHTI) into francophone countries of Africa.

Ethiopia Sets Example in Health Education for Other African Nations

How can African countries build a sustainable health care work force to combat the serious health problems confronting their populations? This is the question that participants asked themselves during the three-day Ethiopia Public Health Training Initiative Replication Conference held in February. Ministers of health, education, science and technology from 10 African governments convened in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to discuss the importance of health education training in building strong, sustainable health systems and to learn how Ethiopia, through its partnership with Â鶹´«Ã½É«ÇéƬ, has built a unique system designed to train qualified health workers to meet the needs of the country.
